Sam is a brilliant piano teacher.

He is not someone who bangs out a formula: he sees each student and engage with them through their personal interests whilst insisting on, and aiming to embed, the highest standards of disciplined, self-directed practice. And he’s fun, too. Unimproveonable.

 

I have been taking weekly, one hour lessons with Sam for 15 months now.  Although I could play the piano at grade six level in my youth I had not played for years.  Sam quickly established my capabilities and a plan to get back on track.  I have particularly enjoyed the flexibility of learning to play from a lead sheet. Sam has maintained the momentum of my learning progression and I can confidently play a range of tracks in interesting ways.  I am particularly pleased with the regime of practise I have learned which has hastened my progress no end.  It is absolutely clear that without disciplined practise however long or frequent that might be, my progress would have been much slower.  I appreciate Sam’s structured approach, his clarity around how to practise effectively and how much I now enjoy practising and playing the piano. 

I think Sam is a amazing piano teacher and his lessons a really fun. He makes what you think is hard at first seem easy at the beginning. He gives me pieces appropriate for my age and skill level and I enjoy learning them (even if I find them really hard at times). Overall his teaching method is really good and he helps me fix my mistakes. Instead of telling me what I'm doing wrong he lets me figure it out myself which I find very useful at home. I would really recommend Sam as a Piano teacher and enjoy going to his lessons on Sunday.
